On Friday night 19th August, the Rossa U8s took part in the last of the Owenbeg blitzes for this season. They were in the same group as Dungiven, Glenullin and Craigbane. The boys (and girl!) played some great football on the night, with excellent performances against Craigbane and Glenullin. Their game against Dungiven was played at championship pace and the Rossas did themselves proud as usual. Well done to all who took part and to their supporters on the night. Team : Michael Mc Kay, Ronan Walls, Conor Grimes, Caolin Mac an Fhirleighinn, Callum Campbell, Rachel Tohill, Cahir Quinn, Jarlath Gormley.

On Saturday 20th August, the U8s made their way to Bellaghy to take part in an “Ulster” tournament. Teams from all over the province were invited to an ambitious U8 and U10 tournament which proved to be a massive success for the Bellaghy club. The Rossas were grouped with Ardboe, St Eunans Letterkenney and St Brigid’s Belfast. The lads were quick to get into their stride and came out on top on all three games, playing some great football along the way. The quarter final saw the lads up against Clan Eireann from Armagh, which they won to set up a semi final clash with the hosts Bellaghy. The Rossas and Bellaghy are no strangers to each other at this age group having build up a great rivalry over the last couple of years. The first half went in favour of the Rossas, leading by 4 points at half time, but then the Bellaghy lads hit back at the start of the second half with 2 great goals. The Rossas didn’t drop their heads however and played some of the best football of their young careers to win the match by a point. Huge credit must go to the young Bellaghy players who played their part in a fantastic game of football. We don’t normally single out any players at this age group but on this occasion we should give a special mention to Aaron Donnelly. Some of his point scoring had the big crowd shaking their heads in disbelief. This win took the lads through to the final where they met Carryduff. A great first half saw the lads cross the line and lift the cup, much to the delight of the large Rossa support. Well done to all the lads on a great effort and their behaviour on the day was excellent. We would like to congratulate the Bellaghy club, particularly Karl Diamond and Eunan Cassidy on an excellent competition and thank them for their invitation and hospitality on the day.Team : Eoin Mc Evoy, Oisin Quinn, Michael Mc Kay, Leon Martin, Luke Mc Cann, Odhran Martin, Dan Higgins, Dara Wade, Tiarnan Loughran, Ryan Lennox, Matthew Walshe, Jamie Gribbin Michael Mullan, Cahir Quinn, Shea Mc Corry, Aaron Donnelly, Rory Clarke.
